Jess Veal
I studied at the University of Bristol on the BSc Deaf Studies interpreting stream (2008 – 2011) and completed my NVQ Level 6 Diploma in BSL Interpreting in 2014.
I have been working predominantly in the fields of medical, community, media and mental health over the past few years. However, I am able to accept bookings in other domains.
I work regularly at a Deaf inpatient unit in South London, facilitating communication between hearing and Deaf clinicians and also between the hearing staff and Deaf patients on the ward.
I have an interest in theatre and media interpreting. I worked as an in-house interpreter at Remark! for a couple of years and have worked behind the scenes on a number of TV shoots since then. I have also interpreted for many theatre R&D days and rehearsals.
Aside from interpreting, I am currently training part-time to become a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor (BACP accredited). I work-part time as a volunteer counsellor for Mind, the mental health charity, in Hackney, working with a variety of clients with a range of mental health needs.
In my free time, I am a keen runner and completed the London Marathon in 2017, and have taken part in many other races too. I am a qualified Rescue Scuba Diver and a keen and adventurous backpacker, having recently spent a month in India, and have travelled extensively in South America and Asia. I am also obsessed with dogs.
