Karen Houlihan
I am based in North East London, but am happy to travel, including travelling nationally and internationally for work.
I have a BSc Hons in Deaf Studies (Interpreting Stream) from CDS, Bristol and qualified as a BSL/English interpreter by completing the SLI UCLAN postgraduate course in 2009 and registering as a RSLI in 2010.
My preferred domain is working with Deaf professionals and I am confident working from BSL to English. I have experience of community, mental health, deafblind, TV production (behind the scenes), office and interview interpreting. I also have an interest in theatre and media interpreting as it is a domain I very much enjoy. I was an in-house interpreter at Remark! where I worked behind the scenes on a number of media projects including Wicked! The Hub and Under The Lamp as well as being responsible for subtitling, script monitoring and behind the scenes interpreting for Deaf film crews. I have recently completed a ‘rehearsal room interpreter’ training course and I have also interpreted for many theatre R&D days, rehearsals and behind the scenes on productions and shows.
- Qualified since 2010
