I am a fully qualified British Sign Language/English interpreter, living in Essex and working locally, as well as in London. I am registered with the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People (NRCPD), and I’m also a full member of ASLI, the Association of Sign Language Interpreters. I hold professional indemnity insurance and an up to date enhanced DBS check.
The beginning of my interpreting journey began whilst working within a secondary school in London. Working there was a privilege and I was immersed in the language and supported to become fluent in British Sign Language. I was later offered a in-house position as a Communication Support Worker within further and higher educational settings at City Lit. I spent five years in this domain before deciding to become self employed and branching out into other areas. During that time, I spent a few years working part time in-house at SignVideo; a video relay service which offers the deaf community access to qualified and experienced interpreters, with the opportunity to make interpreted phone calls via web based technology.
Keen to support my profession, I have previously sat on ASLI’s Board of Directors, as well as undertaking voluntary work for ASLI at a regional level. I am still an active member of the association.
I currently hold two degree level qualifications. I was awarded my post-graduate diploma in BSL/ English Interpreting from the University of Central Lancashire in 2011. Prior to this, I studied Social Anthropology at the University of Wales, Lampeter; leaving with a 2:1 (Hons).
